German publication from Pro Igel!"The hedgehog in the vet’s practice"
The standard publication on hedgehog treatment by experienced vet Barbara Zaltenbach-Hanßler has been
comprehensively revised under collaboration by vet Tanja Wrobbel with additional advice from other
veterinary surgeons, taking into consideration the advice of well established hedgehog rescue centres
and rehabilitators. This publication, intended for vets, now contains 44 instead of the previous 36 pages.
In the place of medications which have been withdrawn from sale since the last edition was published,
alternative preparations are listed with the same active ingredients or which have a similar effect.
New preparations have been added for the allopathic or homoeopathic treatment of hedgehogs as has new
information about hedgehog illnesses and their therapy.
In certain passages basic knowledge is accentuated, for example, that any treatment of a sick
hedgehog will only be effective once the patient has reached its normal body temperature of approx. 36° C,
or injection techniques in hedgehogs etc.
The pages on endoparasites have been amended to include information on the development stages of
parasites in pictures and text. (German) Legal requirements which form the basis of effective hedgehog care are also included. The bibliography
has been expanded and contains useful web addresses for vets.
